Criminal and civil convictions from Indiana’s federal trial courts, namely the United States Southern and Northern District Courts may be appealed to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. The Seventh Circuit hears appeals from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin federal trial courts. This appellate court is located in the Everett McKinley Dirksen United States Courthouse in Chicago, Illinois. A party losing a civil case or being convicted and sentenced has thirty (30) days to perfect an appeal, unless one of the parties is the U.S., a U.S. agency, a U.S. officer or employee sued in an official capacity, or a current or former U.S. officer or employee sued in an individual capacity for an act or omission occurring in connection with duties performed on behalf of the U.S. In that case, the party has sixty (60) days to perfect an appeal.
