Five Types Of Evidence Common In Divorce Cases

Most lawyers get involved in a case and begin representing a client when their life is in a state of confusion, falling apart, and emotionally obscures what the client wants to accomplish. If you face divorce, there are several constructive steps you can take to aid your lawyer in helping you work through the process and figure out your legal objectives.

The five types of “things” you can gather to aid your lawyer in beginning your divorce are as follows:

  1. Last six pay stubs.
  2. Last three years tax returns.
  3. List of all of your bills (who you owe and how much), such as credit card statements, car loans, and mortgage payments.
  4. Copies of retirement account statements or brokerage or bank statements.
  5. A copy of your health insurance card.

While this is far from a complete list, it will help you do something beneficial in a situation that is largely out of your control—divorce and/or custody proceedings. On top of this, you might provide a short biography or history of your marriage and what is causing the marital strife.

Dixon & Moseley advocates practice across the State of Indiana. We hope this blog post provides you with general information you can consider as you educate yourself on the divorce process. This is not intended to be legal advice or a solicitation for services.
